Add an account for the books to post to
Nothing can be posted to an account that does not exist, so this is usually the first screen a new set of books is built on.
You need
accounting.accounts.readaccounting.accounts.create
Steps
- Open Chart of Accounts and press Add account.
- Give it an Account code and an Account name.
How your accountant numbers this account. Two live accounts cannot share a code.
- Choose the Type — Asset, Liability, Equity, Revenue or Expense — and a Sub-type if you use them. The type is what puts the account on the right report.
- Leave Currency alone unless this account is held in another one.
Leave blank to use the currency your books are kept in.
- Save. To retire an account later, open it with Edit account and clear Active — do not look for a delete:
An account with postings against it is deactivated, never deleted — its history has to stay.
Some accounts are marked Used by the ledger. The ledger posts to this account itself. You can rename it, but it cannot be deleted.
