Every screen and control named on this page is checked against the product at build time. If a name here does not match your screen, your workspace is on an older release.

Add an account for the books to post to

Nothing can be posted to an account that does not exist, so this is usually the first screen a new set of books is built on.

You need

  • accounting.accounts.read
  • accounting.accounts.create

Steps

  1. Open Chart of Accounts and press Add account.
  2. Give it an Account code and an Account name. How your accountant numbers this account. Two live accounts cannot share a code.
  3. Choose the TypeAsset, Liability, Equity, Revenue or Expense — and a Sub-type if you use them. The type is what puts the account on the right report.
  4. Leave Currency alone unless this account is held in another one. Leave blank to use the currency your books are kept in.
  5. Save. To retire an account later, open it with Edit account and clear Active — do not look for a delete: An account with postings against it is deactivated, never deleted — its history has to stay.

Some accounts are marked Used by the ledger. The ledger posts to this account itself. You can rename it, but it cannot be deleted.
