Check where the books stand today
The first screen of the app answers three questions before you have asked them: do the books balance, what has the month done so far, and can anything still be posted.
You need
accounting.dashboard.read
Steps
- Open Accounting. It opens on Dashboard by itself — this is the app’s front door.
- Read the balance line first. It says The books balance today or The books do not balance today, and it is the sum of every posting in the books rather than a figure kept anywhere.
- Under This month so far you get Revenue, Expenses and Net profit; under Where the business stands today, Assets, Liabilities and Equity.
- Look at Periods and locks before you try to post anything. With no period open the ledger refuses every entry:
Nothing can be posted until a period is open. Add one on the Periods screen.
- Lock dates in force lists the dates that close the past off. An entry dated on or before one of them is refused, whatever else is true.
If the totals are missing rather than wrong, it is a permission and not a problem: You do not have permission to read the accounting reports, so the totals on this page are hidden. Nothing is wrong with the books.
