Post a journal entry, and reverse one

This is where a posting is made by hand rather than raised from a document, and where every posting the rest of the suite made can be read back.

You need

  • accounting.journal.read
  • accounting.journal.create
  • accounting.journal.post

Steps

  1. Open Journal Entries and press New entry.
  2. Set the Date, write a Memo, and add a Reference (optional) if the entry answers to a document outside these books.
  3. Press Add line for each line: an Account, a Description, and a Debit or a Credit — one or the other, never both on one line.
  4. Watch Difference as you type. It has to reach nothing before the entry will go, and one line is never enough: An entry needs at least two lines — one debit and one credit.
  5. Press Post entry. From that moment the entry cannot be edited: A posted entry cannot be changed. Reverse it and post a correction.
  6. To undo one, open it and press Reverse entry. A posted entry is never edited or deleted. Reversing it posts an opposing entry that says what it cancels, and both stay in your books.

The Source column says where an entry came from. Manual is one you typed; POS sale reaches these books only when the Accounting app is installed AND the till’s crossing into the ledger has been switched on — a trade app keeps its own finance module and posts nothing here by itself.
