Put a time clock on the wall
The clock is the screen that writes the punches everything else reads. It runs full-screen on a PC or a tablet by the door, with nobody signed in, and it is set up in two places: here for the device, and once per person for the way they identify themselves.
You need
hr.time-clocks.createhr.attendance.punch
Steps
- Open Attendance and choose Time clocks.
Registered time clocks. Each holds a token that can do one thing: record punches.
- Press Register a time clock, give the machine a Name you will recognise on the list, and save. A token is shown once, under Copy this token now:
It is shown once. Paste it into the time clock screen on the device.
- On the machine itself, open Time clock. It says This device is not registered: paste the token into Device token and press Use this device. From then on the clock works on its own, whether or not anybody is signed in on that machine.
- Now give each person a way to prove who they are. Back on Attendance, open their row for the day and use Set PIN or Set badge under Time clock credential.
Four to eight digits. Never the sign-in password.
- At the clock the order is always the same: Tap to clock in or out, then Who are you? with Employee number and PIN or a Badge number, then one of Clock in, Clock out, Start break and End break.
- A person changes their own PIN at the clock with Change PIN — Current PIN, New PIN, Save PIN. Nobody, including you, can read a PIN back; you can only clear it with Clear PIN and let them set a new one.
- To take a machine out of service, press Revoke on its row in Time clocks. Its past punches stay on record.
A clock whose token was revoked, or which was never registered, records nothing and says so: This time clock is not registered or has been revoked.
