Keep selling when the connection drops

A shop does not stop because the internet does. Cash sales carry on and sync when the line comes back; card does not.

You need

  • pos.sales.create

Steps

  1. When the connection goes, Terminal says You are offline and keeps selling.
  2. Take Cash. Each sale is kept on the machine: Saved on this device. It will sync when you are back online.
  3. Do not try to take a card: A card payment needs a connection. Take cash, or wait until you are back online. Store credit and loyalty points cannot be taken offline either.
  4. There is no receipt number until the sale reaches the server: There is no receipt for a parked sale — nothing has been sold yet and no number has been issued. — the same is true of a sale still waiting to sync.
  5. When the line comes back the queue drains on its own and the receipts get their numbers.

Close the shift only once the queue is empty — the till refuses otherwise, because a drawer counted against a total that is missing sales is not a count. And a machine that has never been online has nothing to sell from: You are offline and nothing has been cached here yet. Reconnect once to load the catalogue.
