Open a shift and count the float in

A till takes no money until somebody has opened a shift on it and said what was in the drawer to begin with.

You need

• pos.cash-sessions.open

Steps

1. Open POS and go to Shifts, where every till session in the business is listed, open or closed.
2. Press Open shift and pick the Register you are standing at. Tills live on Registers; if yours is not there yet, see Set up a new till.
3. Count the cash in the drawer and enter what you counted as the Opening float. Count it — the end of the day is measured against this figure, not against what the drawer held last night.
4. Confirm. Terminal will now take money on that register; until then it says No shift is open and sells nothing.
5. The shift carries a Business date. Everything rung on it is reported under that trading day — a sale appears on the day its shift opened, not on the clock date.

Money that moves in or out of the drawer during the shift without a sale is recorded on its own, so that the count at the end still balances: Take cash out of the drawer, or put more in.
