Close the till at the end of the day
Closing a shift counts the drawer, records what is over or short and seals the trading day. It cannot be undone, so do it once and do it properly.
You need
pos.cash-sessions.close
Steps
- Open the shift on Shifts and press Close shift.
- Count the drawer: enter, for each note and coin, the Denomination and How many. The Counted total adds itself up as you go.
- You are counting blind on purpose. Expected in the drawer and Difference appear only once the count is committed — a count you can check against a total first is not a count.
- Press Commit the count. The shift then reads Over, Short or Balanced.
- Read the Cash-up (Z report): Gross sales, Tax collected, Refunds and the Tender types the shift took.
The till says it plainly: A shift cannot be reopened once it is closed. A correction is recorded as a new entry that says what it corrects.
And one with sales still queued on it will not close at all: A shift cannot close while sales are still queued on this device, because the drawer would be counted against a total that is missing them. Reconnect and let the queue drain first.
