Total, copy formatting and tidy a spreadsheet

Open a spreadsheet in Spreadsheets. These buttons work on the cells you select.

Steps

  1. Select a column of numbers and press AutoSum on Formulas: the total goes in the empty cell under them. Select several columns to total each one, or one row of numbers to total it in the empty cell after it. Include an empty row at the bottom of your selection to choose where the totals go.
  2. AutoSum never writes over anything. If the cell where the total belongs already holds something, nothing changes and SISC names that cell, so you can empty it or choose again. On a single empty cell it proposes the numbers above or to the left; press Enter to keep it.
  3. The small arrow beside AutoSum gives the same placing with Average, Count numbers, Max or Min.
  4. To copy a look, select a cell that already looks right and press the paintbrush on Home. Then select the cells that should look the same with the mouse: they take its font, colours, borders, alignment and number format, and the paintbrush puts itself down. Press Escape to put it down without painting.
  5. Clear formats takes the formatting off the selected cells and keeps what is in them; the eraser beside it does the opposite. Delete rows and Delete columns sit next to the insert buttons, and are also on the menu you get with a right-click.

From tablet width up, the buttons on Insert, Formulas, Data and View show their names beside the icons. Undo puts back anything a button did.
