Record attendance from your own computer

In "My computer" mode, SISC Time Clock records one person's own working time on their own Windows computer: Check in, Break, Back from break and Check out, in a small window and in the notification area. It is off until the company turns it on, and then only for the people the company names.

You need

  • hr.settings.update

Steps

  1. HR: in HR, open Attendance and its "Time Clock app" tab. Under "Attendance from employees' computers", switch on "Allow attendance from computers", add the people who may use it, and choose what happens when somebody comes back after being checked out for inactivity: ask "Welcome back, check in again?", or check them in automatically on their first activity.
  2. Each person then gets a one-time code that pairs a computer to them and nobody else: HR presses "Pair an employee's computer" and chooses the person, or the person opens My HR, and on its attendance tab presses "Get a pairing code". A code for a computer works once, within a day.
  3. On the computer, install SISC Time Clock from the Downloads page, choose "This computer", and sign in with your SISC Suite email (or user name) and password. If you may make pairing codes, this computer is connected to you straight away; otherwise type the code from the step before. You are signed out at once either way, and the window says whose computer it is.
  4. The first time it opens, SISC Time Clock asks once how this computer will be used: choose "This computer". The answer is locked to this installation and nobody can change it in the app; to change it, HR removes the computer in HR, and the app is installed and paired again.
  5. Press Check in when you start, Break and Back from break around a break, and Check out when you finish. The same four are in the menu of the icon in the notification area. Closing the window keeps the app running there.
  6. If there is no mouse or keyboard activity for 30 minutes while you are checked in, you are checked out at the moment of your last activity, so the idle half hour is not counted. Five minutes before, a "Still working?" reminder appears; moving the mouse cancels it. Locking the computer, sleep and shutting down count as your last activity from that moment. Breaks are not affected.
  7. If the app was closed while you were checked in, it checks you out at your last known activity when it next starts, and marks that punch so HR can see why. A quick restart in the middle of the day does not check you out.

What the app measures: only how long it has been since the last mouse or keyboard input, read from Windows, and when the computer locks, sleeps or shuts down. It never records which keys are pressed, what is on the screen, which windows or apps are open, or websites. Each punch is marked as coming from the person's own computer, with its reason (pressed, inactivity, return, or after the app closed), so HR reports can tell them apart. Punches made offline wait on the computer and are sent once, when the connection returns. The computer's clock is checked against SISC Suite's: if it is more than two minutes off, a punch sent as it happens is filed at SISC Suite's time instead, and every punch sent while it is off is marked "PC clock was off" for HR.
