Put a customer on a plan and bill each period

A contract is one customer on one plan, from the first period to the last. Each period that falls due becomes a real invoice — numbered out of the same series as any other and posted to the same ledger.

You need

• accounting.invoices.create

Steps

1. Open Recurring contracts and press New contract. Choose the Customer — they have to exist first, on Customers — and the Plan. How often this bills is taken from the plan and kept on the contract, so editing the plan later does not re-time an agreement already signed.
2. Set Starts, then Ends or Number of periods if the agreement is a fixed one. Leave blank for an open-ended agreement.
3. Press Add line for each thing the agreement covers: a Description, a Quantity and a Unit price. Leave blank until it is agreed. The contract cannot start billing while a line has no price.
4. Save it, open it and press Start billing. While it is a Draft it bills nothing and can still be rewritten; once it is Running it cannot: This contract has started, so it cannot be rewritten. Renew it instead, which leaves the invoices it has already raised alone.
5. Each morning open Due now and check the As at date above the list first — Your own working date, not the server's. Then press Raise invoice on a row. That press is the only thing that bills: nothing here runs on its own, and one period cannot be billed twice however many times it is pressed.
6. Renewals shows the agreements with an end date that finish soon, and Renew starts the next one beside the invoices the old one already raised. Churn says what ended instead, and why.

To stop an agreement, open it and press End contract: it becomes Ended and Next period reads Nothing left to bill. Everything it billed stays where it is, under Invoices raised and on Invoices.
