Refund a payment a customer made online
When a customer paid an invoice online through your own PayPal or Stripe, you can send all or part of it back from the receipt it became. The money goes back through the same provider, and Accounting issues a credit note for exactly the amount refunded.
You need
accounting.onlinePayments.refund
Steps
- Open Receipts and open the receipt. A receipt paid online shows a Paid online block: what was paid, what has gone back and what can still be refunded.
- Open More actions and choose Refund.
- Enter the amount — at most what can still be refunded — and the reason. The reason is printed on the credit note.
- Confirm. The provider sends the money back to the card or account the customer paid with, and the receipt lists the refund with its credit note.
The invoice is never reopened: the credit note takes the refunded amount off it and the refund entry takes the same amount out of the bank, so the customer owes nothing and is owed nothing. If the provider refuses, nothing is booked and the refusal says why. If the provider does not answer, press Try again: the same request is sent again and can never refund twice. Only people given the refund permission by name can refund.
